Neil Young

Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945, Toronto, Ontario, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, giutarist, banjo, keyboards and harmonica. Young grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with his mother after her divorce from his father, a well-known Canadian sportswriter. Neil Young is one of the most respected and prolific rock/folk guitarists of the late 20th century. Having performed in bands since his teens and later as a soloist in Toronto coffeehouses. In a career that extends back to his mid-Sixties roots as a coffeehouse folkie in his native Canada. Young performed in rock bands in the Winnipeg area before returning to Toronto in 1965 to pursue a folk-based career. In the early 1960s the Canadian-born Young performed as a self-accompanied folksinger on the Toronto scene. Neil Young established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation. Neil Young's body of work ranks in terms of depth, and his abilaty to sustain his critical reputation, as well as record sales, for a long period of time. This is partially because of his willfully perverse work ethic.

Neil Young and bassist Bruce Palmer moved to California and teamed with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay to form Buffalo Springfield. Young was both folkie and rocker, so when he arrived in Los Angeles in 1966 he was ready for Baffalo Springfield, Although best known for its 1967 pop hit -- Stills' "For What It's Worth" -- Buffalo Springfield

From his early days with Buffalo Springfield to his 1970s heyday with his band Crazy Horse, Young's plaintive voice and raw guitar earned him success with pop tunes, protest songs and even country ballads.

December 1997 — The Godfather of grunge, Neil Young

One of the few Woodstock-generation rockers whose late career didn't rely on reunions and re-issues, Neil Young in the '90s earned the title "Godfather of Grunge", along with a new generation of followers. Young raw-edged rock and roll, making him a hero to bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

The earliest written reference to Neil Young as the 'Godfather Of Grunge' was in December 1991, when Tower Records in house publication Pulse! published a cover article on Neil Young titled 'The Godfather Of Grunge Rock' by Steve Martin.

Neil Young Review  he's metamorphosed from one style to another over a career that spans three decades. He was an innovator. His nasal, idiosyncratic tenor vocals, occasionally oblique and sarcastic lyrics, and rudimentary, but extraordinarily gritty and compelling lead guitar technique don't go over well with everyone, but they do mark him as a true original.

The Mynah Birds  Early 1966, Rick James and Neil Young were in a band. The group, called the Mynah Birds, also included bassist Bruce Palmer, who, with Young, would go on to Buffalo Springfield

Buffalo Springfield  1967 and 1968 --but every one of their three albums was noteworthy. Established as a folk-rock band entire Californian rock sound. Apart from the Byrds, no other American band had as great an impact on folk-rock and country-rock.

Neil Young & the Stray Gators   1968 Neil Young left the Californian folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield. He slowly established himself as one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of his generation.

Crosby,Stills,Nash & Young  1968: Crosby had been a member of the Byrds, Nash was in the Hollies, and Stills had been part of Buffalo Springfield. By the time of their first tour (which included the Woodstock festival), they had added Young. The first CSNY album, Deja Vu, was a chart-topping hit in 1970
